Recruitment

Junior Professor of Statistics

(Assistant or Associate)

ESSEC Business School, Cergy-Pontoise Campus

Chair of Excellence in Data Science

Offer description

The Department of Information systems, Decision sciences and Statistics (IDS) at ESSEC Business School invites applications for a permanent full-time faculty position in Statistics at its Cergy-Pontoise (greater Paris) campus. This position is funded, in its first 4 years, by a Chair of excellence in Data Science, supported by the CY Initiative in the framework of the PIA program (French government’s “Investments for the Future” program), which aims at identifying top French academic institutions for their capacity to become world-class universities.

We are looking for candidates whose research relates to high dimensional models and network analysis, statistical machine learning, and data science in general. This will in particular be beneficial for the reputation of the PhD concentration in Data Analytics and related master programs, such as its Accenture Chair in Analytics and the ESSEC-ISUP Risk & Actuarial track of the Master in Management (Grande Ecole Program), or the ESSEC|CentraleSupélec Master in Data Sciences & Business Analytics.

The Chair of excellence in Data Science will have a strong international research focus, making the Chair-holder benefit from a reduced teaching load (namely, 75 hours/year), an internationally competitive salary and benefits package, and a significant research budget. The main objective is the production of impactful and high-quality academic publications, both fundamental and applied to management science, to help consolidate and develop the reputation and expertise of the existing research team at ESSEC. As part of her/his obligations, the Chair-holder must commit to target junior European Research Council (ERC) type or similar grants during the duration of the Chair.

To be considered, candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics or Statistics, Econometric theory with publications in statistics/data science journals, show evidence of excellence in research and in teaching (if any experience). Support to research is an important part of the ESSEC policy and faculty members enjoy an attractive incentive-based research environment. Rank of appointment (assistant or associate) and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salaries are competitive at international level.

Applicants should submit their application via the following link:

https://essec.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7NDYoxsGapMYXad

The application package should include:

- a cover letter

- a CV, containing research and teaching interests,

- a complete list of publications, and teaching evaluations (if any),

- a research statement

- a teaching statement

- contact information of at least three referees

Questions about the position may be directed to Professor Marie Kratz (kratz at essec.edu).

The search for candidates opens with this announcement and continues until the position is filled. To receive full consideration, the application package must be submitted by November 29, 2020 (instead of May 24). Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the application deadline has to be postponed, as candidates cannot be interviewed on our campus for the coming months (and the school's policy precludes the use of solely virtual interviews). We aim to conduct interviews in December with the hope that travels will be possible by then.
